Sam holds a bachelor's degree from University of Connecticut,School of Business and a Ed.M in International Education Policy from Harvard University.At Harvard, Sam held several student leadership positions including representing Harvard Graduate School of Education on the board of Harvard Graduate Council. Sam has consulted for UNICEF on education reform through innovative policy making in the developing world.

Sam was one of the co-authors of a book on global education along with his mentor and Harvard professor Dr. Reimers. A passionate global educator, Sam founded The Northwood Program (a learning through travel educational program) in 2013, and Global Study Treks, Inc. (a non-profit focused on identifying, creating and advancing global competence skills amongst American youth from low-income backgrounds) in 2018.

Sam currently serves as Schools & Scholarships Committee Area Chair, for Harvard College, Office of Admissions & Financial Aid in Connecticut

 

Mike Lyon

Vice Chair/Director

Mike is the east coast senior territory sales manager for Timber Products Company, one of the largest timber companies in the United States. He is originally from the west coast, graduating from the University of Oregon, and he currently lives in Connecticut. He is married and has five grown children and several grandchildren.

As an avid outdoorsman, Mike enjoys camping, hiking, biking, and running. He has completed marathons, triathlons, and obstacle course races including the Spartan Beast, Tough Mudder, and the Warrior Dash. In addition to his love for the outdoors, Mike also enjoys playing acoustic and electric guitars, as well as playing the drums and various other instruments.

Mike shares the vision of Global Study Treks in that through global education we can help to transform the lives of low income youth in our communities by providing opportunities that they may not have had access to otherwise. Mike believes that travel can expand our understanding of other cultures and lead to a deeper appreciation of our fellow human beings. This greater knowledge through travel will help shape a more compassionate, empathetic and respectful young person and will help to transform the lives of those involved for many years to come.


Hoay Smith

A graduate of NYIT, Mr. Smith began his distinguished law enforcement career becoming one of " New York's Finest" by joining the NYPD after coming back from Vietnam and earning his degree simultaneously. He spent the next 28 years of his career serving as an NYPD officer including a decade as an Academic, Firearms and Tactics Instructor, he was responsible for educating & training NYPD recruits on rules & procedures, re-training current NYPD officers, including NYPD Emergency Service Unit (ESU) officers on all tactical weapons & how to respond to emergency situations from a tactical point of view. Mr. Smith was involved in training Emergency Service Officers who responded to the World Trade Center attacks on September 11,2001.

Mr.Smith has a lot of experience volunteering and mentoring youth as well as elderly,including volunteering at Kingsborough Jewish hospital, he has donated to various charities including UNICEF and sponsoring a child at St.Jude children's hospital. Mr.Smith is a passionate supporter of advancing global education opportunities to youth from low-income backgrounds


Erica Archambault

"Erica Archambault graduated from Harvard University in 2010 where she was an active participant in the Harvard Pre-med Society, Radcliffe Choral Society, and founding member of the Harvard College Undergraduate Research Association.

Erica attended medical school for three years and then decided to change paths and follow her true passion: education. Erica is currently pursuing her Masters of Curriculum and Instruction through the University of Saint Joseph while teaching science full time at Terryville High School in Plymouth, Connecticut.

Erica was nominated in 2018 for the Outstanding Biology Teacher award through the National Association of Biology Teachers. Erica is on the Science Fairness and Accessibility Committee for the State of Connecticut, a member of the National Educators Association, and is playing an active role in the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards in her school and at the state level. She still is involved in the Harvard admissions process as an alumni interviewer and is passionate about college preparedness.
